The Book Of Isaiah
Isaiah 1:1-9
Unless the Lord of hosts had left to us a very small remnant, we would have become like Sodom, we would have been made like Gomorrah.
Isaiah 1:9.
Today, we will begin our devotional readings and meditations from the book of Isaiah. The aim is to draw us closer to the Lord as we read His word. Reading through this book will help us to familiarise ourselves with how the people of Israel lived and how we can relate to the same issues in our time.
The prophecy of Isaiah is divided into two broad themes with several sub-themes under them. Theme 1 relates to the Judgment of God. Its sub-themes include:
1. Prophecies about Judah. Chapters 1-12.
2. Prophecies for other nations. Chapters 13-27
3. Warnings and promises. Chapters 28-35
4. Historical section. Chapter 36-39.
Theme 2 relates to the comfort of God. It talks about God’s grace, compassion, and glory. Its subthemes include:
1. Promises of redemption. Chapter 40-48.
2. Provisions for redemption. Chapter 49-57.
3. The realization of Redemption. Chapter 40-48.
A running theme in this book is God’s intolerance for sin, His call for repentance, His love for justice and restoration. May the Lord help us to seek Him in holiness and purity of heart. May the Lord teach us His word and grant us fresh insights and understanding in Jesus Name. Shalom.
