Prophet Isaiah
Isaiah 1:1
These are the visions that Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. He saw these visions during the years when Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah were kings of Judah”
Isaiah 1:1, NLT.
According to the International Standard Bible Encyclopedia, “Of all Israel’s celebrated prophets, Isaiah is the king”. The book named after him is a favorite among believers of all time.
The name “Isaiah” means “Yahweh is salvation”. Isaiah was the son of Amoz (Isaiah 1:1). He came from a noble and royal background. He had access to the palace and the priests. He was married and had two sons – Shear-jashub and Mahershalal-hash-baz (Isaiah 7:3, 8:3).
Isaiah served in the reign of four kings. His messages were visions. The Bible says, “These are the visions that Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. He saw these visions during the years when Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah were kings of Judah” (Isaiah 1:1, NLT). They focused mostly on the spiritual and political state of the people of Judea, Israel and some foreign nations.
Isaiah utilized a lot of expression and imagery. Many times, the Lord gave him visions with interpretations to explain what He meant. Theologians suggested that his prophetic activities span 40 -50 years. It is believed that Isaiah died of martyrdom during the reign of King Manasseh.
