How Are We Doing?

1 Thessalonians 2:1- 8
For the appeal we make does not spring from error or impure motives, nor are we trying to trick you (1 Thessalonians 2:3, NIV).

Reading through today’s devotional passage, the thoughts that came to my mind was – we have so much to learn from this team. Are we willing to learn from them? I also thought about how we are doing relative to the high standard of commitment and stewardship demonstrated by these Apostles.

From the passage we read, we were made to understand the things we need to run from in order to do ministry, serve God and His people well. These include:

  1. No impure motives. Verse 3a. We must not pretend to minister to God’s people when we have ulterior motive. Some of which may include but not limited to inordinate desire to lord it over others and God’s people.
  2. No tricks. Paul writes, “For the appeal we make does not spring from error or impure motives, nor are we trying to trick you” (1 Thessalonians 2:3, NIV). O! How we need to hear this more in our days when many church goers have been deceived by the tricks of many “men and women of God”. This includes self-declared miracle workers or signs and wonders performers.

Friend, may the Lord help us to examine ourselves so that we do not fall into these unholy habits as we decide to serve in the Lord’s vineyard. Shalom.

Your Turn

  • Pray for yourself. Pray for your pastors and church                leaders that they will avoid these errors.
  • Pray that God will send true servants and leaders into His church.

Song: Alleluia! For the Lord God Almighty reigns.
