No Flattering Or Mask
1 Thessalonians 2:5-6
You know we never used flattery, nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed God is our witness (1 Thessalonians 2:5, NIV).
Continuing from where we stopped yesterday, Paul and his friends revealed more truth to us about how not to serve. They told us what they never did. That is, “You know we never used flattery, nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed- God is our witness” (1Thessalonians 2:5).
- No people pleasing behavior: That is, focus on pleasing God and blessing His people. If this is our goal we will not fail or fall.
- Never use flattery: To flatter is to praise somewhat dishonestly while flattery is to give excessive or insincere praise. All of these are rooted in pretense and insincerity. They must not be found in us. Be genuine with your praise and truthful in your admiration of others.
- No mask to cover up greed: Those who put on a mask pretend. They are masquerades. They parade themselves to be something they are not. They pretend so that they can deceive people. We see them in our churches and the television. The Bible says this is not good so we should not do it. Do not be an imposter.
Solution: Let your praise come from a heart of love. Let your focus be on pleasing God only. Every other thing will fall in line.
Shalom.
Your Turn
- Think on these things.
- In what ways can you apply them to your life, walk with God and relationship with others?
Song: Thy word is lamp unto my feet.
