God, Our Stronghold
Psalm 59:1-17
To You, O my Strength, I will sing praises; for God is my defense, my God of mercy (Psalm 59:17).
I am sure many of you must have wondered how some believers cope better in crisis than others. It is not only
because of who they are; rather, it is because of what they know and have experienced about the God they believe.
This is the bottom line: In the time of struggles and trouble, who do you know God to be and who is He to you? David
said as a fugitive, “I will wait for You, O You my Strength; for God is my defense” (Psalm 59:9). He revealed God as his defence. He went further to say, “To You, O my Strength, I will sing praises; for God is my defense, my God of mercy” (Psalm 59:17).
The more you know God as the God of your defence and mercy, the more confident and bold you will be to take your
case to Him because you know He is able to handle it. This year let us know God as our defence and relate to Him as
such. Let us see Him as the God of mercy and let Him display His power in our lives.
He has promised to give His angels charge over us. We know He will fulfill it. He will release His heavenly hosts to be
with us and stand as our refuge in the day of trouble. Our God is reliable and trustworthy. May the Lord expand this
word in our hearts. Shalom.
Your Turn
- Who is the Lord to you?
- Can you confidently call Him your strength and defence? Why not?
