A Time Of Quietness

John 5:14-30
For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does … (John 5: 20).

Prayer is a two-way communication. It is talking to God, as well as listening to Him. We need to depart from the pattern of just pouring out our hearts before God or telling Him about our struggles and pains without waiting for a response.

In other words, we need to be quiet in His presence to hear what He has to say to us in return. Sometimes this could come in the form of ideas and impressions. He may lead us to a passage of the Scriptures, drop the name of someone who may be of help or give wise counsel that we need. The goal is seeking to be led by Him in all our ways.

Jesus tells us in the passage we read that God speaks. This is one of the reasons we need to develop the habit of scheduling time to meet with God, so we would not be in a hurry. There is a time to pray and quickly go away, but there is also a time to inquire in His presence. This will require you to be patient and quiet, to listen and to hear Him. In this way, prayer becomes an avenue of peeping into God’s mind to know His thoughts towards you, and His mind on other issues, national or global.

I desire this level of intimacy and walk with God. How about you? Let us pray.

Your Turn

  • Thank God for His love towards us.
  • Thank Him for finding pleasure to meet with us.
  • Ask the Lord to put in you a fresh desire to love His presence.

Song: I will magnify the Lord, who is worthy to be praised.
