What Is Prayer

1 Timothy 2:1-8
… I desire that the men pray everywhere …
(1 Timothy 2:8).

Fosdick defines prayer as “the soul getting into contact with the God in whom it believes.” I agree with this definition
because it takes faith to pray to a God one cannot see, but expect answers. So, if you have ever said a word of prayer to God, it means there is a measure of faith in you!

Dr. Myles Munroe defines prayer as “approaching God in order to ask Him to accomplish His will in the earth.” To work with this definition, therefore, means that we know the will of God for the earth at every time. This requires that we are familiar with what God’s word says about the situation.

Taking this further, some time ago, I found myself praying for my church and the city I lived in at the time because I believed God wanted to do a great work there. One day, Isaiah 10:21 caught my attention: “The remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the Mighty God”. The Spirit said, “Yes! That is a word for this city.” The remnant of God in our cities shall return to God if we pray.

In that season, I prayed that God’s will for the city would come to pass and that He would bless the work of denominations and ministries that were reaching out to souls. That is how to approach God to intervene in earthly situations. Let us pray.

Your Turn

  • Ask the Lord to teach you how to pray.
  • Ask God to accomplish His will in your life and use you to pray for your world.
  • Pray for me and my family to continue to pray as we should. Thank you.
