Warnings From The Lord
Zephaniah 1:1-18
“I will utterly consume everything from the face of the land,” says the Lord.
Zephaniah 1:2.
Today, we will turn our attention to the prophecies of Zephaniah as we look at the words the Lord gave him to His people. As in verse 1, Zephaniah is perceived to be the great-grandson of King Hezekiah. He lived during the time
of the young King Josiah. He prophesied about the great Day of the Lord that is to come.
The great Day of the Lord, when used in the Scriptures and in the prophetic books, refers to the day earmarked for the judgment of sin and wickedness. It is a day that spells doom for the people of an area, a nation or the world as it is in the case of the passage we read.
Because of sin and disobedience without repentance, the Lord plans to destroy both man and beast. He said, “I will
utterly consume everything from the face of the land… I will consume man and beast … I will cut off man from the face of the land,” says the Lord (Zephaniah 1:2-3).
Friend, in what ways are we fueling the anger of the Lord and perpetuating evil in our land? Are we part of those that make the Lord angry when He inspects our neighborhood, city or nation? Look at verse 17. Is this what we want? It is time to seek the Lord. Let us pray.
Your Turn
- Pray for yourself. Confess your sins, those of your family and the land.
- Pray for an obedient spirit to follow through God’s direction.
