The Song Of Victory

  • Judges 5:1-31
Lord, when thou wentest out of Seir, when thou marchedst out of the field of Edom, the earth trembled… (Judges 5:4).

Following their victory, Deborah and Barak sang praises to God. It is a joy to note also that the people willingly offered themselves indeed. The songwriters recognized who fought and won the battle, so they gave Him the glory. They recognized that they were vessels in the hand of God. It was God who was at work in them both to will and to do of His own good pleasure. See Philippians 2:13.

From verses 6-9, we also have a glimpse of what life was before they went to war. Some translations translated “village life” to mean warriors. Warriors ceased in Israel. There was anarchy, idolatry and sin, yet a woman’s heart was pleading the cause of her people before the Lord, and God responded. The lesson to learn here is that when you choose another god, war will break out at your gate. Let God alone be God in your life.

I believe the prophetic utterance in verse 19-20 will come to pass when the events described in Revelation 19:19-21 is fulfilled. For the Battle of Armageddon will be fought in the valley of Megiddo when satan, represented by Sisera here, will go with no silver and plunder, for the Lamb on the throne will put an end to him. Even so come Lord Jesus. May God fight for you, so that you can sing a new song.

Your Turn

  • Pray for yourself.

Song: You deserve the glory and the honour.
