The Assurance Mnemonic
John 1:10-18
And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace (John 1:16).
While I was working on this edition, I decided to turn the word “assurance” into a mnemonic that could be useful in helping us to remember what assurance stands for. A mnemonic is a reminder or a memory aid that helps us to comprehend an ideology or concept. Below are the reminders. You can form others too:
“A” stands for “Acceptance”. If you know Jesus you have been accepted by the Father and your sins are forgiven. The Bible says, “Having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ … He made us accepted in the Beloved” (Ephesians 1:6). Also, “As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12).
“S” stands for “Security”. Christ paid the price for our sins so that we could have access to God. Because of Jesus we are secure in God’s love. No one can take us away from Him. See John 10:28-29.
“S” stands for “Salvation”: If you believe in Jesus Christ, you are saved. “Even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)” (Ephesians 2:5). See also John 3:16.
Friend, we have received grace to stand in affirmation of the faith that we have received. The more we understand and know this truth the more we will walk and benefit from God’s grace.
Shalom.
