Take The Next Step

Judges 1:1-7
And the Lord said, ‘Judah shall go up. Indeed I have delivered the land into his hand.’ (Judges 1:2).

After the death of Joshua, the Israelites sought God to know the next step to take. He answered, “Judah is to go first” because He had already given the land into their hands. In obedience, the men of Judah engaged the enemy in a battle to claim the land God had given them.

Applying this to ourselves, what do we do when a door in our life seems to be closed and we desire a new one to be opened? Do we seek God’s face for direction or do we do what seems right in our own eyes? When that relationship ended, did you go back to God to let Him know or you jumped into the next available one?

Today’s passage shows us the right thing to do. We are to seek the Lord for direction. No wonder we are told in Proverbs 3:5-6, not to lean on our own understanding but rather to acknowledge God in all our ways.

One of the benefits of seeking God and intimating Him about our life is receiving direction. When you call Him, He will show you what to do and how it will all end. Knowing their  victory was guaranteed before they started, the men of Judah obeyed. We would see this same principle as the Israelites began to have judges and kings. I believe we can learn from this approach.
