Sin Emphasised
Zephaniah 3:1-5
She has not obeyed His voice, she has not received correction; she has not trusted in the Lord, she has not drawn near to her God.
Zephaniah 3:2
As it is to the nation, so it is to the people. As we read about the wickedness of Jerusalem and her inhabitants, so it is in our time. We are people who have strayed away from God. We have committed untold, surprising lawlessness and wickedness like the people we read about.
Of Jerusalem, the prophet writes, “She has not obeyed His voice, she has not received correction; she has not trusted in the Lord, she has not drawn near to her God” (Zephaniah 3:2). We have done the same. We can see the list of sins and offences in verses 2-4. It includes:
1. Disobedience
2. Lack of trust in the Lord.
3. Lack of intimacy with the Lord.
4. Oppressive leaders.
5. Wicked judges.
6. Reckless and unfaithful prophets.
7. Derailing priests and teachers of the word.
Friend, the Lord is righteous and just to judge us. “The righteous Lord is in that city. He does no wrong. He brings
His judgment to light every morning. He does not fail. But those who are perverted are shameless” (Zephaniah 3:5,
GWT). Let us return and seek the Lord. Shalom.
