Safety From Enemies
Psalm 57:1 – 11
Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in You; And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, until these calamities have passed by (Psalm 57:1).
Does anyone need God’s mercy and protection today? I am sure we all do. We need God’s mercy at all time. We need His intervention and protection from the enemies and their plots to harm us. The writer of today’s psalm captured all these feelings in his prayers.
In verse 1, he cried saying, “Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in You; And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, until these calamities have passed by” (Psalm 57:1). He knew only God could save him from disasters and calamities. Indeed, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe” (Proverbs 18:10).
Behind the writer’s cry was a confident assurance that God would hear him. He said, “I will cry out to God Most High, to God who performs all things for me. He shall send from heaven and save me; He reproaches the one who would swallow me up. God shall send forth His mercy and His truth” (Psalm 57:2-3).
I challenge us to develop this confidence in God too. How can we attract His mercy and safety?
1. Call on God. Ask Him to step into your case by faith.
2. Praise Him with the expectation that He will answer.
This psalm is one of the psalms I have waged war with several times, God has not failed me.
Your Turn
