Respect The Word

Isaiah 30:8-17
So this is what the Holy One of Israel says: “You people have refused to accept this message and have depended on cruelty and lies to help you … So you will be like a high wall with cracks in it that falls suddenly …”.
Isaiah 30:12-13, NCV.

Another offence the people of Judah committed was their disdain for the word of the Lord. They did not have
respect for the prophecies that true prophets brought to them.

For example, they told the prophets, “Do not see,” and to the prophets, “Do not prophesy to us right things; speak to us smooth things, prophesy deceits. Get out of the way, turn aside from the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us” (Isaiah 30:10-11). This is a great offence.

As a result, God sent a word of judgment to them. “Because you despise this word, and trust in oppression and perversity, and rely on them, therefore this iniquity shall be to you like a breach ready to fall, a bulge in a high wall, whose breaking comes suddenly, in an instant” (Isaiah 30:12-13).

The lesson is that we must be careful the way we receive and respond to God’s word. When we ascertain the genuineness of a word and have checked it with the Scriptures, we must respect it. If we are not sure, we can respect the speaker and take the case to God without surrendering our spiritual leadership to them.

God who knows the truth will clarify everything to us if we are willing to be taught. “The humble He guides in justice,
and the humble He teaches His way” (Psalm 25:9). Shalom.
