Qualities Of “The Faith”
Ephesians 4:4-6
There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism (Ephesians 4:4-5).
The qualities of “the faith” include:
- Only one faith: The passage we read made us to understand that there is only one faith. Not only that, it is based on one God, one Lord and one Spirit. We do not n e e d another god or a variant. The baptism exemplified by the Lord Jesus Christ remains the standard and we do not need another type.
- It is unchanging: The Bible says, “I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the f a i t h which was once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 3). It means the doctrine of the faith we have is stable. It is unmovable and does not need man’s effort to sustain. When we receive it and believe it as Jesus Christ and the Apostles have presented it to us, we do not need other.
- It was once delivered: No revision is needed. The interpretations of men do not change its fundamental truth, the gospel remains true. The Vine’s Expository
Dictionary of Biblical Words translated the Greek word, “Hapax”, to mean once. It further presents “Once for all” to mean of perpetual validity not requiring repetition”. The Bible is complete and we must hold on to it as the final authority. See John 16:13; 2 Peter 1:3.
Friend, these foundations are necessary so we may understand whom we believe and what we believe. Shalom.
Your Turn
- Thank God for the faith you have
- Pray that you will continue to stand firm in Him.
Song: We give You glory Lord, as we worship You.
