“The Faith” In Perspective

Romans 10: 1-17
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17).

We will continue to lay the foundation for our study so that we can be grounded.  Today, we will look at “the faith” in perspective.

There are two types of faith presented in the New Testament. We have the subjective faith and the objective faith.

  1. Subjective faith: This is the personal faith we have in the Lord Jesus Christ. It is the faith you received and expressed when you confessed and accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. This is the faith referred to in Romans 10:17. “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God”. If you do not have this faith, you cannot please God. See Hebrews 11:6. Those who do not receive Him as God has revealed in the Bible will be guilty of John 3:18.  Yet, this is not the faith in the context we are looking at ‘contending’.
  2. Objective faith: This is the one that Jude referred to.

Someone has said, “This is God’s system of faith  revealed on the pages of inspiration”. It is the doctrine of Christ revealed to us in the New Testament about the  salvation of mankind and life after death. This is the faith  we are to contend for. This is the faith we have to  d e f e n d . Anything outside it is subject to human interpretations and errors.

Your Turn

  • Do you have both types of faith? Have you given your life to Christ and are you learning the truth of His word to build your faith in Him?
  • Talk to God about your concerns.

Song:  Defender of this heart (Day after day your love will remain).
