More Weaknesses

Judges 15:9-20
The Spirit of the LORD came upon him in power. The ropes on his arms became like charred flax … (Judges 15:14, NIV).

Continuing from where we stopped yesterday, let us look at other weaknesses in the life of Samson. The goal is to learn from him so that we can avoid the same mistakes and live a better life.

1. Lack of discernment: Many times, Samson’s actions did not evident a discerning man. He knew he had extraordinary strength he could rely on. But it appeared he did not fully understand that this strength was for his people not for him. It appears also that the men of Judah did not recognize him as a leader to deliver them from the hand of the Philistines.

Solution: Continuous reliance on God and focus on our purpose would help us to know what to do per time. It would also help us to know when we are going away from the core of our purpose.

2. Lack of focus on purpose: Samson forgot the problem he was called to solve – to deliver his people from bondage. Yet God continued to use him and helped him. Although on a smaller scale, as long as Samson kept his part of the covenant as a Nazarite, the Spirit of the Lord remained with him.

Solution: Focus will help us to achieve more. Samson would have achieved greater things than he did if he aggressively pursued the Philistines than the occasional incidents we read about.
