Book Synopsis
Jude 1- 25
Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called (Jude 1:1, KJV).
It is believed that Jude’s apostolic letter was written before the fall of Jerusalem in A.D 70. It means it was likely written in late A.D 60. It is the fourth smallest book of the Bible. Yet, it contains one of the profound messages on false teachers and what the church needs to do about them.
The book is made of 25 verses with a focus on one topic – the need for believers to fight false teachers who had crept into their midst. They are to contend for the faith they have in Jesus Christ. His letter echoes the writing of Apostle Peter in 2 Peter. He made reference to this letter in the later verses of the book.
Jude wrote the letter when the church was under severe persecution from Rome and the Jews. While persecution was ongoing without, within the church experienced the rise of false teachers who were peddling wrong doctrines. Jude wasted no time to say that these men would be judged by God. He provided several examples from the Torah to support this claim.
Finally, he advised his readers on how to prepare to contend, stand firm and fight like believers. Friend, we must pay attention to this book so that we would know what to do when we are faced with such challenges. The Lord will speak to us.
Shalom.
