Go With A New Attitude

Ruth 2:5-17
And the foreman replied, “She is the young woman from Moab who came back with Naomi. She has been hard at work ever since …” (Ruth 2:6-7, NLT).

I sincerely confess that my personal belief in change and recovery affected the way I read the Book of Ruth. While I do not deny that many of us have remained where we are  because of our mistakes in making wrong choices, I want us to understand that we can change and make something good out of what we have left. This may require that we develop new attitudes to life and work.

We were not told about Naomi and Ruth’s past lives with regard to work. One thing we know is that Ruth was a woman of great character. Naomi commented about her  kindness and that of Orpah in Chapter One. In the passage we read, Boaz further confirmed the report of her kindness. In addition, the field manager also alluded to her as hardworking, respectful and focused. He said: “She is the young woman from Moab who came back with Naomi. She has been hard at work ever since, except for a few minutes’ rest in the shelter.” (vs. 7, NLT).

She asked for work and stayed focused on it. She needed new attitude that would take her to the next level. The Bible says, “Work brings profit; talk brings poverty!”(Proverbs  14:23, The Living Bible). It has been said that attitude is everything. How are you doing in this area?

Your Turn

  • Are there attitudes you would love to change and become a better person ready to meet new opportunities?
  • How willing are you to develop new attitudes?
  • Talk to God about your needs.
