To God Be The Glory

John 3:16-21
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16).

This last week of the month, we look at three hymns that have blessed the church through the years. Today, we will look at the hymn, “To God be the glory”. The hymn was written by Fanny J. Crosby in the 19th Century. Some believed it was written in 1875 while others think it is much earlier than this.

The hymn is based on the passage we read today. It is about gratitude to God for the redemption of mankind from sin. The second stanza reads thus:

O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,
to every believer the promise of God;
the vilest offender who truly believes,
that moment from Jesus a pardon receives.

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
let the earth hear his voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father through Jesus the Son,
and give him the glory, great things he hath done.

Friend, have you been purchased by the blood of the lamb? Do you know what it means to receive the pardon of the Lord? How grateful are you for all that He has done in your life? It is time to sing and give Him the glory for saving us and making us His own. Shalom.

Your Turn

  • If you are saved, thank God for your redemption and give Him glory.
  • If you have not given your life to Christ, consider doing
    so today.

Hymn: To God be the glory great things He has done.
