Generational Transfer
Psalm 78:1 – 8
We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, And His strength and His wonderful works that He has done. (Psalm 78:4).
Mentoring requires that we are generational thinkers. We must be intentional in making generational transfer to our children and young people around us to let them learn the ways of the Lord.
This is known as intergenerational mentoring. God refers to this when He says, “For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the LORD …” (Genesis 18:19).
Abraham was expected to teach his children the way of God. We must do this too. Our children, young men and women around us must grow to know God and own their faith. To do this, we need solid and intentional mentoring in addition to the various discipleship programs that hold in our churches or denominations.
Let us bear in mind the following as we seek ways to mentor others.
- Assess your commitment and decide on how many person(s) you can mentor.
- Mentoring is a one-on- one affair because it takes time to share at deeper levels and model the right values.
- Trust must be the key.
- Keep your focus on Christ and know Him. When we do this He will help us.
Shalom.
