Wanted: Timothys In Our Generation

1 Corinthians 4:14-17; 1 Timothy 1:1-4
For this reason I have sent Timothy to you, who is my beloved and faithful son in the Lord, who will remind you of my ways in Christ, as I teach everywhere in every church. (1 Corinthians 4: 17).

My attention was drawn to today’s passages as I thought about the life of Timothy, how trustworthy and reliable he is and how much faith the Apostle Paul had in him. I wonder if we can boast that we have such men in our generation. Do we have faithful sons at home and in ministry?  Indeed, our generation needs more Timothys.

What are the qualities that Timothy possessed that we can emulate? They include:

  1. He was a true son in the faith. See 1 Timothy 1:2. It

means he was humble and surrendered himself to  Paul’s coaching and mentoring.

  1. He followed Paul’s teaching and advice.
  2. He was faithful in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 4:17.
  3. He was a sound teacher of the word having been tutored by one of the best in his generation.
  4. He was an encourager. 1 Thessalonians 3:2.
  5. He was a reliable servant.

Can this be said of us by our pastors, fellowship leaders and our bosses at work? May be we can think on this and pray for grace to be like Timothy in attitude. Shalom.
