You Can Ask For More
Judges 1:11-16
She said, ‘Let me have another gift. You have already given me land in the Negev; now please give me springs of water, too.’ So Caleb gave her the upper and lower springs (Judges 1:15, NLT).Through faith, Caleb lived beyond his friends, and was able
Tto possess the land he stepped onto as a young man in Numbers chapter 13.From today’s story, perhaps due to old age and weakened strength, he needed to conquer Kirjath sepher, so he sought someone to do it for a price, his daughter. Doesn’t this sound like our God who always rewards? Othniel took the challenge and won. They got a good prize but he felt they could ask for more.
Through the principle of asking and receiving, he encouraged his wife to ask for more inheritance and they got it. They even got more than they asked for. The Bible says, “She said, ‘Let me have another gift. You have already given me land in the Negev; now please give me springs of water, too. So Caleb gave her the upper and lower spring’ ”. (Judges 1:15, NLT).
Practical application: What can you learn from this story? Are you satisfied with the present state of things in your life? Or you want more? All you have to do is to have the required willingness to ask God and to have a reason why you want it (Matthew 7:7). The Negev was a dry land so they needed a spring land for obvious reasons. Be bold. Ask God for what you need. See Hebrews 4:16. Shalom.
Your Turn
