Withstand Strange Doctrine
Galatians 5:1-10
You ran well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? This persuasion does not come from Him who alls you (Galatians 5:8).
The knowledge of who we are in Christ and what has been made available for us would help us to reject any teaching and doctrine that does not conform to the truth and the Christ of the gospel.
The Galatian church was infiltrated by false teachers and those who placed great emphasis on the law. In particular was the teaching on circumcision which removed their focus on the new life that they had in Jesus Christ. This was contrary to what they had been taught by Apostle Paul.
Paul told them, “You ran well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? This persuasion does not come from Him who calls you” (vs. 8). The people became susceptible to strange doctrines because they were not grounded in the faith. They allowed themselves to be deceived by these men who were looking for followers for themselves and not for Christ.
Paul further warned them saying, “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love” (Galatians 5:6). Friend, having a good knowledge will save you from all of these. You will know what God says with regard to your faith in Christ Jesus.
Friend, only faith that walks by love in obedience to Christ matters. May the Lord create a hunger in you for the knowledge of His word. Shalom.
Your Turn
- Praise God for this word. Pray that you will grow in your knowledge of God’s truth.
- Pray for me and my family that we would continue to stand in faith with assurance of salvation too.
