With All Soberness

Galatians 6:1-5
Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted (Galatians 6:1).

Reading the book of Jude in the “New International Version”, my attention was drawn to the phrase “to others show mercy, mixed with fear – hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh” (Jude 23b). As I thought to myself, I ask how I can do this without getting into trouble. The Holy Spirit reminded me of today’s passage.

What I got from this passage is that we do not have to fear because God is with us. He will help us to confront and correct them. And if they listen, we will save them from the hands of the enemy and the penalty of sin. But we do this with all soberness, trusting God to help us to be watchful so that we too are not persuaded to fall into the same error.

The “God’s Word Translation” presents our focal text thus: “Brothers and sisters, if a person gets trapped by wrongdoing, those of you who are spiritual should help that person turn away from doing wrong. Do it in a gentle way. At the same time watch yourself so that you also are not tempted” (Galatians 6:1, GWT).

Let us reach out to them; hating what they do because we know it is not based on the truth of Christ.  Seek to change their minds and moral values with the word. The Lord will protect us and help us as we do this. Shalom.
