Who Will You Serve?

Joshua 24:14-15
And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve … But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord (Joshua 24:15).

As we round off the month, we need a gentle reminder on who we will continue to serve. In this time and age, temptations abound. If we are not tempted to serve mammon, the god of money, we will be tempted to believe in ideologies that reject the Lord and His Son. That is why we need to watch.

Faced with the reality of his death and the sense that the next generation may not be as committed to the Lord as they were in their time, Joshua challenged his people. He told them: “Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve… but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15).

If we fast forward we were told, “Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died when he was one hundred and ten years old. … When all that generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who did not know the Lord nor the work which He had done for Israel” (Judges 2:8, 10).

We must not be like them. We must be consistent in our commitment to the Lord. We must be committed to teach the next generation about the love of God and His saving grace. Who will you continue to serve?  As for me and my house we will serve the Lord. Shalom.
