What Happens When I Sin?

1  John 2:1-4;  3:4-9
My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may  not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous (1 John 2:2).

Following yesterday’s devotional thoughts, I seem to hear someone say: “So what happened when I sin? Does it mean that I have lost my salvation and the assurance that I have?” Thank you for the questions. This would be the focus of today’s thought.

Please relax; you have not lost your salvation. If you are sincerely following the Lord and you sin, which we all do, we have an advocate, Jesus Christ. He sits beside the father in heaven and intercedes for us. See Hebrews 7:25. The Bible says, “And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous” (vs. 2). That settles our fears.

When we sin and we confess it to the Lord, He will cleanse and forgive us our sins. Where the problem lies is when we habitually sin or we deliberately sin with the mind of confessing it later. If we continue to do this, our faith will not stand; we will lack the assurance of salvation that we so much desire.

Remember, “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God” (1 John 3:9 KJV). The seed of righteousness is in you, if you are watering it with the word of God and prayer.

Sin will not have dominion over you.  Shalom.
