We Must Be Careful
Judges 8:4-21
Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thine army? (Judges 8:6, KJV).
The officials of Succoth and Peniel could not see a great future and victory ahead of Gideon so they refused to help him in his time of need.
They lacked the prophetic and visionary eyes every leader and mentor must have to see greatness in their younger men and protégés in order to help them to prepare for a great future. Their refusal also made them to miss out of being recorded as those who helped Gideon to succeed.
Friend, God is talking to us today. How many people have we refused to support just because we did not understand and see what they see? Do we do this out of pride, poor discernment or fear of losing our positions? I only hope we will not be found guilty for neglecting to teach the younger generation. There is no need for the fear of losing our relevance and position. Our gifting may look alike but our purposes and assignments are different.
Our generation needs men and women who will be willing to mentor and support the next generation. Also, the younger generation needs to embrace humility and be willing to learn from their leaders. When we do this, the body of Christ will be better for it. God will be glorified.
Your Turn
- Are you a Gideon or one of the men who refused to help Gideon?
- Pray for yourself as you have been ministered to?
