Uncommon Wisdom

Ruth 4:1-12
On the day you buy the land from Naomi, you also acquire Ruth the Moabite, the dead man’s widow, in order to maintain the name of the dead with his property (Ruth 4:5, NIV).

The Bible says, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding” (Proverbs 9:10). Boaz’s fear of God vindicated him in the end. He did not go out to marry Ruth but God rewarded him with the special woman.

As we saw few days ago, Boaz could have manipulated his way to marry Ruth, bur he followed the rules. The fear of God and love for the law of God helped him to do the right thing. He sat at the gate and called the elders to bear witness according to the law.

For me, the presentation of the land before the mention of Ruth was the demonstration of uncommon wisdom. In this way, he allowed God and the events leading to his marriage to Ruth to take its right course. In all of these, we saw a man, who controlled his passion and managed his strength.

I also want to comment on the wisdom and sincerity of the unnamed relative. Even though the law gave him the right to acquire the land and marry Ruth as well (see Deuteronomy 25:5- 10). He was sincere in his answer. He knew marrying another woman to raise a son for his dead relative may harm his family. This is a lesson for us to learn. We must learn not to bite more than we can chew. Shalom.

Your Turn

  • Pray as you have been ministered to.
  • Ask the Lord to fill you with the spirit of wisdom to know what to do at all times.
  • Pray for my family that the Lord will fill us with the spirit of wisdom. Thank you.
