Trumpets And Torchlights
Judges 7:15-25
He divided the three hundred men into three groups
and gave each man a trumpet and a clay jar with
a torch in it (Judges 7: 16, The Living Bible).
Any time I read today’s passage, I am always amazed at how the Lord fought the battle for His people. With trumpets and torchlights God did what a whole nation’s army could not do!
Reflecting on the strategy that Gideon used in this battle, I am reminded of what the Bible says in Job 32:8. “But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding” (KJV). I personally believe that God gave Gideon the idea and the wisdom to divide the army into three.
Having heard the interpretation of the dream, the Bible says Gideon worshipped and gave God the glory for His help. The idea he received for this battle has never been reported before. The Bible says:
Suddenly they blew their trumpets and broke their clay jars so that their torches blazed into the night… all shouting, “For the Lord and for Gideon!”
21. Then they just stood and watched as the whole vast enemy army began rushing around in a panic, shouting and running away.
22. For in the confusion the Lord caused the enemy troops to begin fighting and killing each other from one end of the camp to the other …. (The Living Bible).
Friend, God will help us too, if we will ask Him to lead us and show us what to do. Let us pray
