The Letter To The Thessalonians
1 Thessalonians 1:1-10
Paul, Silas and Timothy, to the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: grace and peace to you (1 Thessalonians 1:1, NIV).
Today, we will begin our study of 1st and 2nd Thessalonians. The aim is to acquaint ourselves with the word of God and know the truth it teaches. Several reasons necessitate the study of these two books.
First, there is the need for us to become grounded in the word of faith and let the same word influence and change our lives. Second, we need to read and have a devotional study of the book of Thessalonians because we could relate with several issues that were touched in it and ask the Lord to help us to apply its truth.
In the opening verse, Paul revealed the identity of his audience. “Paul, Silas and Timothy, to the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: grace and peace to you” (1 Thessalonians 1:1, NIV). They were a community of faith in God and the Lord Jesus Christ. This opening words show that the members of this church had a close walk with God. Are we a church in Christ? Do we know the Lord?
Without wasting time, Paul prayed for them. He said, “Grace and peace to you”. Friend, where we are now and the way we are living in our generation, I believe we need the grace and peace of God to keep us till the end. Let us pray.
Your Turn
- Is our action and attitude reflecting the fact that we are in union with Christ?
- Pray for yourself and your church.
