The House Of The Lord

Psalms 122:1-9 NIV
1 I rejoiced with those who said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.”
2 Our feet are standing in your gates, Jerusalem.
3 Jerusalem is built like a city that is closely compacted together.
4 That is where the tribes go up the tribes of the Lord to praise the name of the Lord according to the statute given to Israel.
5 There stand the thrones for judgment, the thrones of the house of David.
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May those who love you be secure.
7 May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels.”
8 For the sake of my family and friends, I will say, “Peace be within you.”
9 For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your prosperity.

I was glad when they said to me,
“Let us go into the house of the Lord.”
(Psalm 122:1).

Recently, my understanding of the power of fellowship with the brethren has shaped my commitment to it. Hence, my new drive for worship, focus, and joy when I am in the house of the Lord.

The psalmist says, “I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go into the house of the Lord” (Psalm 122:1). Why? There are joy and power for the believer in the house of the Lord. Friend, are you glad when you come to the house of the Lord? Or you think it is a burden to go to church and house fellowship?

From the psalm, we read we can see many benefits. They include:

  1. Worship of God. We worship Him because He is our God, maker, and Saviour.
  2. We pray to God for the peace of the church, our city, and nation. See verse 6, CEV.
  3. We make declarations based on the revelation of the word of God so that the church can prosper and be at peace. See verse 7, CEV.
  4. We pray for one another. Through intercession and supplication, we help one another to obtain deliverance.
  5. We hear God speak to us. His words are His judgments and laws.

Friend, when next you go to the house of the Lord, look out for these benefits and you will be glad you went. Shalom.

Your Turn

  • Pray that you will begin to enjoy your fellowship with other believers.

Song: As we gather may Your Spirit work within us.
