Show Respect And Love

1 Thessalonians 5: 13
Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other.

aving settled the issue of resurrection, Paul turned his attention to another topic – Respect for those who serve. This is another virtue that is gradually being lost in our time. Many of us do not know how to show respect or receive it. Others do not know the importance of it and why we need to do it.

To respect is to consider worthy of high regard. It is to have reference to or for something. I believe mutual respect among those who serve and are served is the oil that keeps the engine of love running without friction. The Scripture says, “Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves” (Romans 12:10, NIV).

In addition to respect, we are to love our ministers too. These men and women sacrifice a lot to be our leaders and ministers. We love and respect them not for who they are, but for whose they are and represents. I am aware that is why they are called men of God.

We honor and love them because they are ministers of the grace of God. If we continue to look at their flaws, we will not be able to respond to today’s admonition yet none of us is without flaw. May the Lord teach us the truth on this matter.

Shalom.
