Ruth’s Uncommon Qualities (II)

Ruth 2:17-23
Then she said, “Let me find favor in your sight, my lord; for you have comforted me, and have spoken kindly to your maidservant, though I am not like one of your maidservant” (Ruth 2:13).

Continuing from where we stopped yesterday, we would examine more qualities Ruth exhibited to enable us desire them. These qualities are important and would help us  develop quality lives and sustain good interpersonal relationships. They will also help us to be more efficient and effective in our endeavors.

Faith: It takes faith to leave your country and follow another woman with no apparent future and her God. It takes faith to believe that tomorrow will be better and to pursue the dreams in our hearts. When Ruth was unsure of what lay ahead, she chose to follow the God of her mother-in-law. God protected and rewarded her just as Boaz declared (see Ruth 2:12).

Teachability: Ruth remains teachable throughout the whole story. Naomi coached and mentored her because she was willing to be mentored. It is a different thing to desire to coach and mentor someone; it is another thing for the mentee or client to be willing to commit to the relationship. She further displayed this quality when she listened to Boaz’s advice to remain in his field.

Humility: Ruth was a very humble woman. She recognized the favor of God on her life and was grateful for it. She continued to humble herself before man and God. She appreciated all that God had brought into her life.

Let us be challenged by Ruth and ask the Lord to help us develop these qualities. I need to have these qualities so that I can represent the Lord well. How about you? Let us pray.

Your Turn

  • Look into your life and pray that God will help you to produce these qualities.

Song: I need thee every hour.
