Raise An Ebenezer Stone

1  Samuel  7:7-14
Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen, called its name Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us” (1 Samuel 7:12).

Sometime last year, I came to a realization that the Lord has been good to me with regard to my career. I know that I am more than where I am and could do better but I have never come to this clear understanding of how much God has saved me from and blessed me until a younger colleague informed me about happenings in similar organizations.

I paused and said to him, “Maybe I should be thankful for being in this place. Maybe God has kept me here to hide me from all the professional politics and rivalries you have brought to my attention. This place may have its challenges but God has been good to me”.

With my perspective changed, I began to thank God for His goodness. While I am praying and waiting for the next level, I raised a stone of Ebenezer to say, “Thus far the Lord has helped me”. His favor on this job has been tremendous.

I shared my story to challenge you to think and look for several reasons to say, “God, I am grateful”. There is something the Lord has done for you. There is a victory in your life that you can say, “Thus far the Lord has helped me”. Do this today and you will see how thanksgiving changes one’s perspective.

Shalom.
