Peace-Loving Friend

Genesis 21:22 – 34
God is with you in all that you do.  Now therefore, swear  to me by God that you will not deal falsely with me, with my offspring, or with my posterity… (Genesis 21: 22-23).

Afraid of Abraham’s greatness and the evidence of God’s touch upon his life, Abimelech and Pinchol, his commander, sought a peace pact with Abraham.

They told him, “God is with you in all that you do. Now therefore, swear to me by God that you will not deal falsely with me, with my offspring, or with my posterity; but that according to the kindness that I have done to you, you will do to me and to the land in which you have dwelt” (Genesis 21: 22  23).

Interestingly, Abraham acknowledged their fear and swore to them. He knew that God would do what He planned in its time. I am sure Abraham remembered that the vision of possessing the land was for an appointed time. As revealed in Genesis 15, God would take care of things when the time comes.Friend, is the hand of God and His touch evident in our lives and in our work as testified by this man about Abraham? I was touched when I read this, and I pray that God’s presence and work would be evident in my life so that I can bring Him glory. How about you?

He also used the opportunity to make a complaint. He reclaimed the well in Beersheba and built an altar to the Lord. How can we be peace-loving in our time? Think on these things. Shalom.
