Overcoming Our Fears

2 Timothy 1:7
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Friend, it may be that you have some fears that are hindering you from obeying God and responding to His leading, I believe the following points could help you to face them and seek God for help.

1. Recognize that you are fearful.
2. Take your fears to the Lord. Tell the Lord the truth. “Father, I am afraid of doing what You have asked me to do because of so and so”. See Hebrews 4:16.
3. Listen for instructions and follow Him. If He says, “Go ahead, I am with you”. Believe Him because He is with you and He will help you. See Hebrews 13:8
4. Face the situation. That is, be willing to confront your fear and do what you have to do. What you cannot confront, you cannot win over.
5. Trust the word that you have received from the Lord.  Know that the Lord will not ask you to do what will harm you.
6. Trust the presence of the Lord. See Deuteronomy 31:6.
7. Focus on the expected end. That is, the victory that lies ahead of you. This will keep you motivated to obey the Lord with expectation.

Your Turn

  • Pray for yourself as you share your concerns with the Lord.
