Naaman’s Servant Girl
2 Kings 5:1-19
Then she said to her mistress, “If only my master were with the prophet who is in Samaria! For he would heal him of his leprosy” (2 Kings 5:3).
Several lessons could be learnt from Naaman’s story. Today, our focus is on the role that the young captive girl played in his life. Just as the Lord used Naaman to bring great victories to his king and people, the Lord used the young girl to change his life. God restored his health, dignity and perhaps his wealth too.
From his testimony he might have become a follower of the God of Israel. See 2 Kings 5:17-19. The following are some of the lessons from her life.
- She refused to be embittered by her captivity. Many times we fail to see the good that God has for us in a situation because we are too encumbered with what did not work. Yet, God has hidden something good for us if only we will look.
- She overcame her fear to reach out to her master. She did not allow herself to be intimidated by the position and wealth of her captors. She knew she could add value to their lives. She told them what she believed was possible.
- She talked about the prophet. Our prophet is the Lord Jesus Christ. We must tell others about Him and what He can do. We were not told, but Naaman might have rewarded her on his return from Israel.
Your Turn
- Friend, in what ways can you add value to your school, office and church? How can you share your faith with others?
- Pray and ask the Lord for what you need to make this a reality in your life.
Hymn: God make me a perfect man and instrument for You.
