Look For The Effect
Titus 2:11-14
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly … (Titus 2:11-12).
Another way we could have assurance of salvation is to look for the effect of salvation in our lives.
The questions to ask include: Since I have given my life to Jesus what changes can I see? Am I still the old me or has certain things changed? Am I still living in sin or do I still enjoy those things that I used to do that the Lord hates? Has the direction of my life changed as a result of my salvation experience? Titus tells us what to do and how to discern the effect of salvation.
- We are to deny ungodliness and worldly lust. Anything that moves us away from walking in the right doctrine and pure living is not an effect of salvation.
- We are to live soberly, righteously and godly. It means we are to live a life that exemplifies holiness and quiet living. Our lives should bear witness that we are changed persons.
- We are to look forward to the second coming of the Lord Jesus. Friend, assurance of salvation fills your heart with longing for more. Your desire will be geared towards seeing Jesus one day and be saved from the evil in our world. Those who have the hope of eternity wait expectantly for it.
- We are to continue to encourage others to hold onto the same truth.
Is your life producing these effects? Let us pray.
Your Turn
- Thank God for the light of His word and the cleansing power in it.
- Pray that your life will continue to produce positive effects of salvation.
