Let’s Pay Those Vows
Psalm 66:13-15
I will pay You my vows. Which my lips have uttered And my mouth has spoken when I was in trouble (Psalm 66:13b -14).
Testifying about the goodness of God include paying the vows that we make in the time of trouble so that we do not commit the sin of negligence.
Sayo had a problem in her workplace. She feared that her appointment might be terminated if God did not overturn the verdict. She prayed and wept in the presence of God asking Him to intervene. She made a vow and promised part of her salary when the case was over. God heard her and heaven also recorded her vow.
The case dragged and was finally resolved six months later. The only penalty she got was a change of department. Three months have passed and she has not redeemed her vow. What do you think?
Before we condemn Sayo, are we free of the same offence? When we are in trouble and need solution, we usually make all manner of promises to God. When we are delivered we forget. If not that God is merciful many deliverances would have been reversed.
The psalmist says, “I will go into Your house with burnt offerings; I will pay You my vows, which my lips have uttered And my mouth has spoken when I was in trouble” (vs. 13-14). Burnt offering is your thanksgiving but your vows are needed too to seal your deliverance. May the Lord help us as we think on these things. Shalom.
Your Turn
