Let Care Be At The Centre
1 Thessalonians 2:6 – 13
Surely you remember, brothers and sisters, our toil and hardship; we worked night and day in order not to be a burden to anyone while we preached the gospel of God to you (1 Thessalonians 2:9).
As a family, we continue to remember and miss the relationship that we had with a minister of the gospel who left our locality. He was a selfless man. His ministry demonstrated what sacrificial giving and leadership ought to be amongst those who serve on the pulpit.
He gives to anyone who comes across him. He does not care if you are the lowest person or giver in the church. When you have a need he seeks for ways to meet it. His example remains with us. The story showed genuine care from the heart of the man of God towards many who came in contact with him.
How can we make care the center of our ministry? As a worship leader, you demonstrate care when you take the time to train and prepare before coming to lead worship. You can demonstrate care when you sharpen your skills as a lawyer or a health care professional before you render services to people.
Paul and his friends also worked to meet their needs in order not be a burden to the people. See verse 9. This is something we need to rethink in today’s church. There is nothing wrong with a full time call. Yet, if you know being bivocational will help you to relieve the burden, then we should do so. May the Lord change us through His word. Shalom.
Your Turn
- How can you demonstrate care through your life, career, work and ministry in the church?
