Justice Matters

Micah 6:6-16
The Lord God has told us what is right and what he demands: “See that justice is done, let mercy be your first concern, and humbly obey your God.”
Micah 6:8, CEV

The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines the word, injustice, to mean, “unfair treatment or a situation which the rights of a person or a group of people are ignored”. It defines, justice, to mean, “the process or result of using laws to fairly judge and punish crimes and criminals”. It is also “the maintenance or administration of what is just especially by the impartial adjustment of conflicting claims or the assignment of merited awards or punishment”.

Friend, God hates injustice. He detests impartial treatment and denial of the rights of a people. To God, justice matters. That is why the Bible says, “The Lord God has told us what is right and what he demands: “See that justice is done, let mercy be your first concern, and humbly obey your God” (Micah 6:8, CEV).

When we deny the poor their right because they have no one to speak for them, that is injustice. When we favor a race above another and deny them any benefit they qualify for, that is injustice. All these contribute to the increasing evil and wickedness in our society.

Our God sees justice, showing mercy to others and obeying Him as the hallmarks of a true believers. God has shown us what to do, let us pursue it. If we begin to obey this word, there will be great change in our lives, cities and governance. Shalom.

Your Turn

  • Pray for your city, land and government.
  • Ask the Lord to forgive us our sins and the injustice in the land.
  • Pray for the grace to obey God and show mercy to one another.

Song: Give us grace to follow.
