Jesus, The Root Of Jesse

Isaiah 11:1-5
There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots.
Isaiah 11:1

Many theologians have alluded to the fact that this portion of Isaiah 11 refers to the Lord Jesus. He is the Rod from
the stem of Jesse. When we link this to John 15, where Jesus referred to Himself as the vine, the picture becomes clearer.

Of interest to us is the characteristics of the Spirit that will possess this Branch. He will be filled with the Spirit of the
Lord and manifest in seven dimensions. This infilling helped Him to delight in the Lord and do that which pleases Him.

Friend, we need to be filled in this way so we can delight in the Lord and do what pleases Him. Imagine how good life will be if we do not judge and take decision based on what we see and hear. Imagine if we are led by the Lord in our choices and judgments. Life will be so good. We will have less conflict and chaos in our family, offices, and nation.

Righteousness will reign because injustice will be done away with. The poor will be treated rightly, and justice will not be perverted by the rulers because everyone is walking and living in the fear of the Lord. Verse 5 says, “Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins, and faithfulness the belt of His waist”. We can still reach out for these virtues. Let us pray.

Your Turn

  • Ask the Lord to fill you and manifest His Spirit in you.
  • Pray for me and my family that we will be filled with the Spirit of the Lord too. Thank you.

Song: Holy Spirit thou art welcome in this place.
