Jephthah, The 8th Judge
Judges 11:1-6
Now Jephthah was a great warrior from the land of Gilead, but his mother was a prostitute (Judges 11:1, The Living Bible).
The search for a leader, who would deliver the Israelites from the Ammonites led to the next Judge of Israel, Jephthah. He was the child of a prostitute but God was with him. He was rejected and sent away by his brothers.
Despite this he had something of value in him to make him a leader. It was his God given strength, his muscles, and his ability to engage others in physical fight and win. In short, he was gifted by God to be a mighty man of valor as the Scripture described him in verse 1.
Friend, it does not matter how you were born, you have something great in you. Your background is not the issue, what matters is what you are doing with your life right now. God is a just God. With God’s help, Jephthah did something great with his life. He helped his nation and delivered them from the hands of their enemy.
David was rejected too but when it was time, God chose and anointed him in the presence of his father and brothers who saw no kingly trait in him. The decision to do something with your life is yours to make. Discover your purpose and pursue it. It may be that when someone with your gift or talent is needed, you will be called. Shalom.
