It Is A Dual Concept
Colossians 2: 1-10
As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him (Colossians 2:6).
The concept of assurance is rich in deep spiritual truths. For instance, the International Standard Bible Encyclopedia refers to it as the “joyous, unwavering confidence of an intelligent faith; the security of a fearless trust” in God and our salvation.
This concept is important for the church and individual believers because a dwindling faith or a heart with uncertainty will be spiritually unstable and live in doubt than in faith. Taking this further, it is good for us to know that the term assurance presents a dual concept. It is both a theological and a practical concept.
As a theological concept, it reveals the difference between being saved and knowing that you are saved through faith in Christ Jesus. As a practical concept, it demonstrates that you have the knowledge of the truth that you are saved, you know it and you are walking in that truth. That is why Paul says, “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him” (Colossians 2:6).
For instance, knowing that I am saved and what God promised as my reward, I can walk in the knowledge of that truth. It helps me to have confident trust that when I die I will go to heaven. That is how to walk in truth. May the Lord grant you more understanding in Jesus’ Name. Shalom.
