How Not To Have Assurance
Titus 3:3-7
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5).
It is good for us to know that assurance does not come from the work of man. It is the byproduct of the knowledge of the truth of what God has done for us in Christ Jesus. It comes by acknowledging this truth and walking in their realities.
We can never be saved by our works. It is all done by Jesus Christ. Our part is to receive His love and surrender our hearts to Him. That is why the prophet says, “All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away” (Isaiah 64:6).
The heart that would have assurance must rest in God’s plan of salvation. Paul emphasized this when he told Titus what he needed to communicate to his audience at Crete. He said, “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit” (Titus 3:5).
Anything else is falsehood and it will lead to disappointment in the future. Make sure your faith is resting on Jesus’ finished work on the cross and not on your own ability to live holy. Think on these things. Shalom.
