His Name Is Wonderful
Judges 13:18
And the Angel of the Lord said to him, ‘Why do you ask My name, seeing it is wonderful?’
Indeed, only a wonderful God could cause a barren woman to become the mother of a child that would be called and anointed from the womb. Only a wonderful God could visit a nation and decide to send a child to earth for the purpose of beginning the deliverance of His people from the hands of their enemies.
When God spoke to Mrs. Manoah through the angel, she did not know who he was and she did not ask. In fact, the angel did not tell her his name. But when Mr. Manoah asked the angel, he told him, “Why do you ask My name, seeing it is wonderful?” (vs. 18). This is remarkable.
Could this be another appearance of the Lord Jesus in the Old Testament that theologians refer to as theophany? Only Jesus is to be called wonderful in the Scriptures. That was one of His names according to prophet Isaiah. “And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6b).
The benefit of this revelation to us is that we are blessed to know the Wonderful One. We have Jesus Christ, the Son of the
Living God, living in us. His power and presence is available to us. If we need Him to perform wonders in our lives, all we have to do is ask Him. He will answer us according to His will. Shalom.
Your Turn
- You have been given a great priviledge to know the Wonderful One. Ask Him to perform wonders in your Life
- Ask God to visit you in every area of your barrenness and cause you to be fruitful.
