His Death, Our Gain

Mark 15:1- 41
And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lemasabachthani?” (Which means: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”) (Mark 15:34, NIV).

It will benefit us if we take time to read the whole passage and it would help us to understand the events that took place in Pilate’s palace, the soldiers’ abuse and Jesus’ final death on the cross.

Before Pilate, Jesus confirmed that He was the King of the Jews. See Mark 15:2. However, He refrained Himself from unnecessary arguments and haggling with the Pharisees, Scribes and the rest of the people. He knew it was a set-up that He must go through. We can learn from this. We need to know when to talk and when to keep quiet and watch knowing that God is in charge of our lives and all things will work for our good.

On the cross, Jesus cried to the father. He needed an assurance of the father’s presence. Having witnessed what happened, the Centurion commented, “Surely this man was the Son of God” (Mark 15: 38, NIV). It took the death of Christ on the cross to convince him.

Friend, the joy of this day will not be complete if you do not know Jesus. If you do not know Him, it is my prayer that you will consider Him and choose to believe in Him so that you can be saved. If you are born again then take time to appreciate Him for what He did for us. Shalom.

Your Turn

  • Thank God for the death of Jesus Christ and what it               means to us.
  • Pray that your heart will continue to follow hard after God.
