He Helps Us To Live

Romans 12:1-12
For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live  (Romans 8: 13).

Lucy and her friend, Andrea, have formed the habit of gossiping about every new student that comes into their class. Even though some of their friends knew what they were doing was wrong, no one seems willing to stop them. It is a given that they will repeat the same thing when another new student arrives.

However, during the fall term, a new student was admitted; to everyone’s surprise Lucy and her friend did not do the usual. Someone asked Lucy during the lunch break what happened. Were they afraid of the new girl or what? Lucy replied that she had given her life to Christ in a summer camp. There she realized that what they did was not right and they were actually hurting the new students for no reason.

Friend, it was not Lucy who chose to stop her bad habits; it was the witness of the Holy Spirit and her cooperation with Him that helped her.  We are told, “For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live” (Romans 8: 13). Lucy knew she belonged to Christ and had to stop the bad habits.

No matter the bad habit and attitude, if we ask the Holy Spirit for help and rely on Him, we would realize that those things we used to do, we will do them no more because there has been a change. Praise God!
