God Wants The Glory

Judges 7:1-25
The Lord said to Gideon, ‘You have too many warriors with you. If I let all of you fight the Midianites, the Israelites will boast to me that they saved themselves by their own strength’ (Judges 7:2, NLT).

Today’s passage offers us several lessons we could apply to our lives.

First, was the need to give God the glory for the victory and blessing we receive. Knowing our hearts and how we love to prove that we are the ones who make things happen, God told Gideon, “Your army is too large. I want to fight this battle and win it with only a handful of you so that you can acknowledge that I did it and give Me the glory”. In His wisdom, God reduced an army of weak and fearful 32,000 men to 300 strong men who are willing to face the enemy.

Second lesson is the need for continuous dependence on God. Throughout the battle, God led and helped Gideon. His continuous dependence on God helped him to secure the victory. The third lesson was persistence. Gideon and his men ensured that the battle was fought to the end. They called for reinforcement and asked others to join them to pursue the fleeing army and their kings.

In this way the victory that was won was absolute. No wonder the land rested for another forty years from invasion. May the Lord open your eyes of understanding to know how you can apply this word to your life. Shalom.
